The Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) has issued a safety advisory to residents of Afaka, Kauya, and Mando areas, warning them to steer clear of its open range from Tuesday, October 28 through Thursday, November 7, due to scheduled firearms training for cadets.

In a statement released Monday, NDA Public Relations Officer Major Mohammed Maidawa outlined the Range Management Package for the 73 Regular Course (Army), emphasizing the exercise’s importance in preparing future officers. “All necessary safety measures have been put in place,” Maidawa assured, conveying regards from NDA Commandant Major-General Abdul Ibrahim and urging residents to comply with the advisory to prevent any mishaps.

The alert follows similar notices issued during past drills, with no incidents reported in recent years. Local communities near the NDA’s Kaduna outskirts have grown accustomed to such exercises, though some residents, including community elder Malam Usman Yusuf, called for clearer signage. “We appreciate the notice—our children play nearby,” Yusuf said.

The NDA stated that no disruptions to civilian life are expected and reiterated its commitment to maintaining safety throughout the training period.
