The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has formally endorsed President Bola Tinubu for a second term in 2027, pledging a sweeping mobilization campaign to secure his re-election.
The endorsement was announced Tuesday during the APC Stakeholders Forum 2025, held at Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island. The high-powered gathering drew an influential lineup, including Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, former governors Babatunde Fashola (SAN) and Akinwunmi Ambode, Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat, House Speaker Mudashiru Obasa and his wife, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, as well as members of the National and State Working Committees, lawmakers, council chairpersons, traditional rulers, religious leaders, and representatives of women, youth, and student groups.
The motion to endorse Tinubu was moved by the Ayangburen of Ikorodu, Oba Kabiru Shotobi, and seconded by Speaker Obasa. Reading the forum’s communiqué, Governor Sanwo-Olu declared: “All representatives of the stakeholders in the Lagos APC have come to the conclusion that President Tinubu should return as our president in 2027. This message will get to Aso Rock... and all nooks and crannies of this great country.”
Sanwo-Olu praised Tinubu’s legacy as Lagos governor, crediting his 12-year tenure with laying the foundation for the state’s current development trajectory. Deputy Governor Hamzat echoed the sentiment, highlighting the administration’s THEMES+ Agenda—Traffic Management, Health and Environment, Education and Technology, 21st Century Economy, Entertainment and Tourism, Security and Governance—as a model for national replication. “From infrastructural renewal to human capacity building, Lagos has moved forward with incredible energy,” he said, urging party faithful to become grassroots ambassadors.
Former Governor Fashola delivered a keynote lecture titled “Voter Apathy and the Sanctity of Election in Nigeria’s Budding Democracy,” where he called for greater youth participation in politics. “Political party participation is based on enthusiasm... We are in a season of renewed hope,” he said, contrasting the APC’s merger-driven foundation with what he described as the opposition’s fragmentation.
The forum’s unified show of support signals the Lagos APC’s readiness to lead the charge for Tinubu’s 2027 campaign, with ambitions to expand influence into traditionally opposition-held states like Oyo and Osun. However, opposition figures, including Labour Party’s Tony Akeni, argue that a united front behind Peter Obi could pose a formidable challenge to Tinubu’s re-election bid.
As the political landscape begins to shift ahead of 2027, Lagos remains a critical stronghold—both symbolically and strategically—for the ruling party’s national ambitions.
