Sudan's armed forces announced Thursday that they had eliminated several foreign fighters, including Colombians and Ukrainians, during a fierce clash in the besieged western city of El Fasher, where the Rapid Support Forces continue to press their assault amid a humanitarian crisis gripping the region.

The Sudanese Armed Forces' 6th Infantry Division reported the deaths occurred in a "special operation" at Al-Karama Square, where the mercenaries—allegedly drone engineers and snipers—attempted to seize high-rise buildings.

Military intelligence accused them of deploying Ukrainian-made drones for reconnaissance and strikes against army positions, framing the incident as a blow to the RSF's foreign-backed push.

The claims, unverified independently, come as El Fasher—one of Darfur's last SAF-held strongholds—endures escalating violence that has trapped civilians and strained aid lines.

Thousands shelter in displacement camps, facing acute food and medicine shortages, with the UN warning of famine risks if the siege tightens.

Neither the RSF nor the governments of Colombia or Ukraine have commented, while Sudan's military urged the UN Security Council to probe alleged RSF war crimes and humanitarian breaches.

The conflict, now in its third year, has displaced millions and killed tens of thousands, with foreign involvement adding layers to an already tangled war.
