All Progressives Congress heavyweights from Kano, led by ex-national chair Abdullahi Ganduje and Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, convened on Thursday to plot a comeback in the northern powerhouse state lost to rivals in 2023, vowing full-throated backing for President Bola Tinubu's reelection amid fresh defections and voter drives.

The closed-door huddle in Abuja drew senators Kabiru Gaya and Abdulrahman Isah, House Appropriations head Aliyu Bichi, Housing Minister Abdullahi Tijjani, and Kano APC boss Abdullahi Abbas, zeroing in on party muscle-building for 2027.

Ganduje, resurfacing politically in Kano circles three months post-resignation, touted Tinubu's policies as magnets for high-caliber switchers—including NNPP lawmakers, commissioners, and the state secretary—while pledging ramped-up mobilization during the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration.

Jibrin spotlighted federal projects dotting Kano and the North as proof of Tinubu's solidarity, framing the gathering as a stocktake of APC's resilience after a near-miss in the last polls. "Tinubu has done well," he said, urging unity to eclipse the New Nigeria Peoples Party's hold under Governor Abba Yusuf.

Adding fuel, APC member Joe Igbokwe claimed on social media that NNPP founder Rabiu Kwankwaso has alerted party brass to a potential defection—possibly towing Yusuf along—welcoming the influx as a boon for Tinubu's camp, though Kwankwaso's aides offered no comment when pressed.

As the APC eyes North-West dominance, the Kano push tests Ganduje's lingering pull against Kwankwaso's grassroots grip, with outcomes hinging on defections' stickiness and voter turnout in a state that could tip the national scale.
