Dangote Cement Plc. has intensified the screening of over 1,500 truck drivers to assess their mental, psychological, and physical fitness for safe operations across Nigeria, Group Managing Director Arvind Pathak revealed at the 2025 Drivers Retreat in Ilaro, Ogun State.

Pathak outlined a mandatory, rigorous process, stating, “Every driver employed by Dangote Cement is required to undergo an extensive and rigorously structured recruitment process that includes valid Driver’s license Class G, background verification of both the driver and their guarantors, comprehensive medical evaluation, as well as vision screening, blood pressure checks, BMI, random blood sugar tests, and drug and alcohol testing.”

“As a regular road user, we understand our commitment to the safety of other road users and our responsibility to other members of society.” - Pathak

Dangote Cement management claims that over the past two months, 1,500 drivers completed the tests, with only those meeting standards certified to drive.

However, the company did not share the success rate.

According to the firm, it mandates pre-trip medical checks by licensed professionals, reinforcing its commitment as a leading cement producer with a vast truck fleet.

The initiative underlines road safety amid Nigeria’s challenging conditions, in the light of recent concerns over truck accidents across the country.
