The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has resumed the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise nationwide, launching the second phase as Nigeria prepares for the 2027 general elections.

INEC’s Chief Press Secretary to the Chairman, Adedayo Oketola, confirmed the resumption in comments to The Punch. The first phase of CVR ended on December 10, 2025, after online pre-registration began on August 18 and physical registration followed on August 25. INEC reported that nearly 9.9 million Nigerians initiated online pre-registration, with 2.57 million registrations fully completed by November 28.

The pause between phases allowed for statutory claims and objections at local government offices from December 15–21. INEC has now urged eligible citizens to register, transfer voting locations, update personal details, and verify or correct information. However, CVR remains suspended in Anambra State and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) due to ongoing elections, with new dates to be announced later.

INEC has not yet released an official timetable for the 2027 elections as it has debunked fake schedules that circulated earlier in January—the constitutional cycle and the Electoral Act 2022 provide a clear framework.

INEC typically publishes the full election timetable 12–18 months in advance, meaning official confirmation is expected by mid-2026.
