Twitch has suspended the channel of Nigerian comedian and content creator Carter Efe for four months, citing violations of its Terms of Service and Community Guidelines.
This comes shortly after he achieved record-breaking viewership and became Africa’s most-followed streamer on the platform.
Efe, known for his humorous skits and hyperactive live sessions, had surged to more than 454,000 followers. His December 17 stream featuring Afrobeats superstar Davido peaked at over 87,000 concurrent viewers, a milestone that cemented his rise to the top of Africa’s Twitch community. The suspension restricts global access to his channel.
Twitch did not disclose specific details of the violations, consistent with its privacy policy in enforcement actions. However, reports suggest possible breaches may have occurred during high-profile streams. These include remarks perceived as derogatory toward fellow artists, interactive drinking games that could be seen as promoting harmful behavior, or sudden influxes of reports that triggered reviews under anti-spam rules.
Following the suspension, Efe quickly pivoted to YouTube, warmly welcoming new subscribers and describing himself as a “joy giver.” Fans rallied in support, with some speculating that coordinated mass reporting may have contributed to the ban.
Twitch’s guidelines stress the importance of maintaining a safe environment, with suspensions ranging from days to months depending on severity. Creators are permitted to appeal decisions through the platform’s Help Center. The incident underscores the challenges faced by fast-growing streamers navigating strict moderation policies on global platforms.
